Alternative Media Blasting - Blasting Media
Okay...so you need a surface prepped, stripped or cleaned...what should be used and why? Here is where we'll give you some basic info on what media we use for our services.
Soda (sodium bicarbonate)
Soda is the least aggressive media we have available, best suited to delicate services. Soda can be used to blast over glass, chrome and rubber with no residual damage. This would be an optimum medium for fire damage removal, mold remediation and similar light-impact jobs. Soda is also an excellent option when stripping paint, both with graffiti removal and auto part restoration, as it will not profile or deteriorate the underlying surface.
Potassium Sulfate (K-strip)
This will do the same job as soda, but with a more aggressive result. K-strip is good for wood surface prep (e.g.: stripping stain or paint from houses), very minor rust removal from metals, and surface mineral removal...such as rust stain removal from cinderblock.
Crushed glass
Crushed Glass is our most aggressive media, used primarily for paint/rust/scale removal on automotive components. It give an awesome paint-ready profile, is very cost-effective, works quickly (fast jobs) makes for a good "workhorse media" on most every job.
Organics(walnut shell/corn cob)
For specific requests and jobs (farm equipment and such) we have alternate media options upon request.
